Dr. David J. Torby, D.D.S., M.S.

Specialist in Orthodontics * Braces * Practice limited to Orthodontics

Dr. David J. Torby received his undergraduate education, DDS degree and Master of Science degree in Orthodontics from the University of Michigan. While at the university, Dr. Torby was the recipient of numerous academic awards and honors. Since 1976, he has specialized exclusively in the private practice of orthodontics in the Detroit metropolitan area.

Dr. Torby has been married for 32 years, and he and his wife have two daughters, ages 20 and 12. He is a life-long resident of Michigan and even was the champion of the 1963 Detroit News Metropolitan Spelling Bee, going on to participate in the National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. Among his other interests are classic cars, stamp collecting and spoiling his family's two cats. Lori,R.D.H. (Hygiene Manager)

Lori, also frequently called "LP", has been a loyal employee and simply fabulous hygienist in our office for over eleven years now. Lori is frequently called "Miss Congeniality" as she always runs to help everyone all day long. She has inspired others to be real "team" members in this manner by leading through example. Lori was one of the first hygienists in the state to test for and pass Michigan anesthesia licensure as well as Michigan nitrous oxide licensure endorsements. This benefits you directly as she has extraordinarily great experience in this area. She is truly an anesthesia expert. Lori is the dedicated mother of three children. She is also actively involved in volunteer community activities. When you see Lori all over town say Hello! Lori leads by example and she relates to patients by example as well. That's why she is frequently found explaining tooth whitening options to patients during treatment. Lori performs simple cleaning through complex periodontal therapy procedures with true excellence and great success. She treats many periodontal patients and has been very successful in the long term retention of highly perio involved teeth. Jennifer,C.D.A. (Clinical Manager)

We call her "Prostho Girl" as she is a particularly dedicated prosthodontic assistant. Her assisting skills are incredible and she can assist all of the doctors but she primarily assists Doctor Joe (99% of the time). When we first moved into the new building, Dr. Aline selected the operatories on the South side. This left the North side for Dr. Joe. Since we are in the northern hemisphere the sun travels from East to West each day essentially over the equator. Thus the sun is in the South.

Dr. Joe noticed that this makes the North side "The Dark Side". From this those assistants that are skilled enough to be advanced prosthodontic assistants quickly became known as "The Dark Siders"! Remember that this is a paragraph about Jennifer... Well... Jennifer is said to be "The Queen of the Dark Siders!" Jennifer is incredibly dedicated to the office and the doctors. She also finds time for her husband, her two children and her many special pets. Jennifer is a major pet nut. Just ask her about them! She is a serious aquarist who has even raised eels. Janice, Office Manager

Jan is sometimes called by some patients our "Money Girl". Her real job is to *help the patient* with their financial responsibilities at the office. Jan is truly an insurance expert. She offers advice to each patient on how to make their dental experience more affordable. Jan can explain insurance coverage and communicate with insurance companies. She is always happy to interface with financial institutions and try to find ways that work for you to get your oral health care performed and get the bill comfortably paid as well. Jan runs our front office. She handles scheduling appointments and sequences treatment visits. Some say that Jan lives in the basement at the office as she seems to be here at all times. She does work long hours but she does have her own life as well. She is an avid athlete and has many sports interests including competitive bowling. Melody, Senior Assistant and Orthodontic Manager

Melody has worked at DRs Mesh for a very long time. It has been over 10 years. Melody is an amazingly capable assistant. She is absolutely a fountain of energy whose stamina and energy lasts long into our late nights of seeing patients. Melody's experience is vast. She is an accomplished assitant for Dr. Joe as she is an expert prosthodontic assistant. No one can pack cord in prosthodontics better than Melody! She is an established endodontic assistant for Dr. Aline. She is also the lead assistant for Dr. Torby in Orthodontics. Melody also manages the office orthodontic efforts keeping things organized for Dr. Torby. Additionally Melody is a dedicated Mother to her children. She is always happy to smile which really helps on large cases and late into the evening. Melody is a hard worker who pitches in at the office on any project and keeps everyone happy.

Ray, C.D.T. (Removable Prosthetics Lab Technician)

We are truly pleased to have a dental laboratory technician of the quality and experience of our Certified Dental Technician Ray. We have worked with Ray for many years and every piece of laboratory work that he fabricates reflects his high concern with quality, accuracy and excellence. Ray owned a removable lab in Pennsylvania and then managed a lab in China. After that, he finely honed his dental lab skills working with the late Jerry Zedan. In that experience he was an integral part of what many prosthodontists feel may have been the best lab in the country. Ray fabricates all of our cast chrome cobalt removable partial denture frame works right here on our premises in our "in house" full service dental lab. He fabricates all of our complete denture procedure appliances. He also coordinates combination reconstructions and precision attachments. Ray fabricates all of our orthodontic appliances. Ray and his wife are active with their church and Ray has been known to visit hospitals to make custom balloons for kids just to see them smile! We are all very pleased to have Ray here to help us provide you the very best of dental care.

Becky (Ceramicist & C&B Specialist)

Becky has shown incredible expertise in every aspect of crown and bridge fabrication. Becky has proven to be a remarkable ceramicist. Dr. Joe has NEVER experienced a better ceramicist anywhere in nearly 30 years of Crown & Bridge experience. Becky also sees patients for custom on site shade matching. This is a major asset as it assures the patient that they will indeed get exactly what they desire. We frequently match shades in many different lighting environments to further enhance the match.

Becky's vast experience has truly been an asset for many years in our "in house" lab. Becky now performs all crown and bridge waxing concentrating on long lasting strength and esthetics while maintaining periodontal compatibility. She builds the porcelain and performs final finishing on all of our "special" ceramic restorations. Becky does all of the Denar' articulation. She performs die indexing and invests our wax patterns. She sets our casting ring burn-outs and makes the casting room ready for Dr. Joe. Dr. Joe casts all of the crown and bridge work for the office. Becky also de-vests after casting and performs all steps in metal finishing. Becky is famous for keeping the entire dental lab perfectly clean - this is unique in the lab industry and a very important source of pride here. Becky and her husband are equestrian enthusiasts when not at work. We are all very pleased to have Becky here to help us provide you the very best of dental care.
